Some People Wake Up
crashinglybeautiful: “Again and again in history some people wake up. They have no ground in the crowd and move to broader deeper laws. They carry strange customs with them and demand room for bold and audacious action. The future speaks ruthlessly through them. They change the world. “ ~Rainer Maria Rilke Submitted by my good friend, Kirsten Liske. Thank you, and Happy New Year!

Update to all: I have been unemployed since the day after thanks giving…I have also been looking for a job since a month prior to that (trying to get out of the job I had). I have had two promising interviews one of which turned me down for the job and the other I am waiting to hear back from (interviewed three days ago). On another note, duncan the irish wolfhound is doing great and...

I just placed an order for an axe. It’s a Wetterlings 26” Forest Axe and it’s magnificent. I called the dealer and made sure they hand picked one with straight grain and a good edge because these puppies are hand forged the old fashioned way in Sweden. Can you say STOKED!!

kateoplis: “Last night I was arrested in my home town, outside an event to which I had been invited, for standing lawfully on the sidewalk in an evening gown. Let me explain; my partner and I were attending an event for the Huffington Post, for which I often write: Game Changers 2011, in a venue space on Hudson Street. As we entered the space, we saw that about 200 Occupy Wall Street protesters...

crashinglybeautiful: Listening Have you ever sat very silently, not with your attention fixed on anything, not making an effort to concentrate, but with the mind very quiet, really still? Then you hear everything, don’t you? You hear the far off noises as well as those that are nearer and those that are very close by, the immediate sounds—which means really that you are listening to everything....

New Toy
A few days ago I purchased a car for $650.  1980 Toyota Corolla Wagon with tons of charm.  It’s not without it’s problems, namely rust, but it runs great and has only 97,000 miles on it though you wouldn’t know it to look at it.  Currently it needs brake work which I have ordered parts for and will do this week.  Once the brakes are fixed and I make sure all the important bits...

A letter written by physicist Richard Feynman to his dead wife, Arline, Oct. 17, 1946: D’Arline, I adore you, sweetheart … It is such a terribly long time since I last wrote to you – almost two years but I know you’ll excuse me because you understand how I am, stubborn and realistic; and I thought there was no sense to writing. But now I know my darling wife that it is right to do what I...

The date on Thursday went as well as anyone could have hoped.  Kacy is two thumbs up on all accounts so far and does a good job keeping me on my toes.  The last two times she has ridden in the van she has taken control of the stereo and anyone who knows me would know that this doesn’t happen but I didn’t stop her…she picks all the right songs.  Kacy, you officially now have the...

Road Trip
I’m planning my next journey.  This time I will be heading south into Florida, all the way to the bottom tip of the state.  The boring part is next, saving up to do this….I figure $5000 minimum to drive down there and back, food each day, emergency funds, and miscellaneous expenditures.  As I will be driving the Vanagon I will not need to set aside money for housing.  I do plan to save...
